About Jade

The Solicitor Behind Ahead in HR

Jade Nelson is a qualified employment law solicitor with over 14 years of frontline experience — advising businesses through disciplinaries, redundancies, TUPE transfers, and tribunal proceedings, while also helping employees understand and enforce their rights at some of the most stressful points in their working lives.

After more than a decade working within traditional law firm structures, Jade founded Ahead in HR because she saw a consistent gap: businesses and individuals who needed real legal expertise but found large firms slow, expensive, and hard to reach. Ahead in HR was built to fix that — direct access to a specialist solicitor, without the layers, the delays, or the unpredictable bills.

Jade's approach is deliberately practical. She won't give you a 10-page letter when a 10-minute call will do. She'll tell you what the risk actually is, what your realistic options are, and what she'd do in your position. Clients consistently say the same thing: they wish they'd picked up the phone sooner.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor — admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England & Wales
  • 14+ years of specialist employment law experience, both contentious and advisory
  • Employment Tribunal representation & advocacy — employers and employees
  • Advises across sectors: manufacturing, logistics, retail, professional services, healthcare
  • Experienced in settlement negotiations, ACAS early conciliation, and ET1/ET3 proceedings

  • Fixed fee agreed before work begins
  • Written proposal setting out the scope
  • We flag any changes immediately
  • Open dialogue about costs throughout

Sometimes a chat is all you need. Other times we may need to step in further — either way, you'll always know what's involved before anything moves forward. Feel like a person, not just a number.

Common questions

Questions & Answers

The questions most people ask before getting in touch — answered honestly.

Is my enquiry really confidential?

Yes — completely. Everything you share with Jade is protected by legal professional privilege from the moment you make contact. Nothing is shared with any third party without your explicit consent.

How much will it cost?

It depends on what you need. Most single-issue queries are resolved in one or two hours. Jade will always give you a clear indication of likely cost before any work begins — no unexpected bills.

Do I need to commit to anything upfront?

No. An initial conversation carries no obligation whatsoever. Many clients simply want to understand where they stand before deciding what — if anything — to do next. That's absolutely fine.

How quickly can I get advice?

Usually same-day or next working day for urgent matters. Jade keeps capacity for time-sensitive situations — if you're facing an imminent deadline, say so and we'll prioritise accordingly.

Is Jade a proper solicitor?

Yes. Jade is a fully qualified solicitor admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England & Wales, regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. You are getting specialist legal advice, not generic HR guidance.

Can you help with matters outside Yorkshire?

Absolutely. Jade advises clients across England and Wales. Most matters are handled by phone, email, and video — location is rarely a barrier.

An employee has threatened a tribunal claim — what should I do?

Get advice immediately — before responding to any correspondence. Early legal input significantly affects your options and your exposure. Jade will assess your position honestly and tell you what your realistic risk actually is.

We don't have an HR department — can you act as ours?

Yes. Many of Jade's clients are SMEs without in-house HR. A retainer arrangement gives you on-call access to solicitor-level advice for a predictable monthly cost — far less than the price of a single tribunal claim.

How do I handle a disciplinary correctly?

Following the right process matters enormously if the matter ever reaches a tribunal. Jade can guide you through each stage — investigation, invite letters, hearings, outcome, and appeal — ensuring everything is documented and defensible.

Are our employment contracts legally compliant?

Potentially not — employment law changes frequently and many contracts in circulation are years out of date. Jade can review your existing contracts and policies, identify gaps, and update them for a fixed fee.

I can't afford a solicitor — is this within reach?

Often yes. Many employee matters — reviewing a settlement, understanding your options after a redundancy, or getting advice ahead of a disciplinary hearing — can be resolved in one focused conversation. Jade will always be upfront about cost at the outset.

I've been offered a settlement agreement — should I sign it?

Not before taking independent legal advice — which your employer is legally required to pay for. Jade can review the offer, advise on whether it's fair, and negotiate on your behalf if it isn't.

I think I've been treated unfairly at work — where do I start?

With a confidential conversation. Jade will listen, help you understand whether what's happened has legal significance, and explain your options — without pushing you towards action you're not ready to take.

Will my employer find out I've spoken to a solicitor?

Not unless you choose to tell them. Your initial enquiry and any advice you receive is entirely confidential. You are under no obligation to disclose that you have taken legal advice.
